Condolence From: Ann Jacobs, Bob Oughton and Families
Condolence: Joan was a lovely lady and long time friend of our family. We enjoyed many get togethers over the years. Our Dad Bill used to take Joan and the girls (Heather and Connie) grocery shopping every Thursday and they would take turns having the lunch afterwards. What good times they had. Bob and I really enjoyed our pre-Christmas visits with Joan and we looked forward to hearing what she had been up to and we would update her on our families. We all have fond memories of Joan and she will be missed.

Condolence: I met Joan by chance when my sister was in the UBC hospital at the same time as Joan and they were room mates and they had such a great connection! They both broke their left shoulder and had the same first names, and the same horoscope, They shared stories of travel, life adventures what was on their hearts like a couple of school girls.
They discussed their funerals and what they wanted to have to celebrate their lives..that is how close and intimate they explored these issues.
They did crossword puzzles , mapped out all the places they travelled to and were united against the common enemies of the staff at UBC and spoke up for each other when the staff let them down, like when Joan needed personal care and was not able to physically help herself and rang the buzzer and the staff still sat and talked to each other and ignored the request of someone in need. I was blessed to have met her and how she always loved pretty dresses. When I saw her at Holy Family she looked so great in her civvies, she had to leave Arbutus Manor a pricey establishment because she had to be in a wheel chair. Not allowed at Arbutus. In it for the money.I am glad I met such a wonderful woman, she loved the CISL 650 Rock music and I loved to hear it. We were blessed to meet her and I hope to see her at the Pearly gates when I arrive. We will wear pretty dresses and eat chocolate and nuts and dance to the great music of the 60s 70s and 80s.Til we meet again. Love and miss you Joan.

Condolence From: Joan Graham
Condolence: Joan became a dear friend of mine while we were fellow patients at UBC Transitional Care Unit in May and June this year, 2017. She and I shared many stories, played crossword puzzles, read books (me reading, her listening as Joan was legally blind due to a drug she had been prescribed at age 40 -Hydroxychloroquine).

We generally just loved spending time together, laughing and telling lifetime stories. Joan had a ton of stories - she had never been married, but had been engaged 3 times! Each of those 3 fellows died before they tied the knot!

Joan loved music especially from the 60s and 70s - - one of her beaux was a member of The Platters music group. She loved travelling, and had done quite a bit of that with her Mom . . . we counted up that she had visited 33 countries if I remember correctly.

I was so sorry to see her health decline so rapidly once she went to South Granville Lodge and then at VGH. Rest in Peace Joan.
